Bowdoin College invites applications for the position of Research and Instruction Librarian. The Librarian will provide specialized reference services and instruction to support faculty and student research in the areas of history, government and legal studies and expertise in the use of legal and statistical resources and government documents. As a member of the Research and Instruction team, the Librarian will engage in all general reference and instruction activities and participate in team planning efforts. The Research and Instruction Librarian will serve as official contact for the Federal Depository Library Program and collaborate on collection development of Maine and Federal documents.

Requirements: Master's degree from an ALA-accredited library program; M.S. in the social sciences preferred. At least three years of successful reference and individual and group instruction experience, with emphasis in the areas of history, government and legal studies; thorough knowledge of research sources and methods in the humanities and social sciences; proven expertise in the use of legal and statistical resources and government documents; evidence of use of innovative approaches to teaching and in using technology to enhance student learning;general knowledge of the Federal Document Depository System; experience in collection development.

Excellent communication, interpersonal, team-building and project management skills creative problem-solving abilities and initiative; desire to work in a collaborative work environment; strong commitment to quality public services; outstanding organizational and analytical skills; strong computer skills and demonstrated ability in the use of a broad range of electronic reference services; knowledge of current national trends in reference services, documents resources and services, library instruction and electronic resources.
