The University of Chicago seeks applicants for the position of Director of the D’Angelo Law Library.
The Director is responsible for leadership and management of the Law Library, an academic research law library with an emphasis on forward-looking, user-focused services provided by 10 professional librarians and 15 full-time staff. The Director oversees strategic planning, budgets, personnel, services, collections, access, discovery, legal-research curriculum and teaching, communication, and facilities. The Director closely coordinates the work of the Law Library with the Law School Dean and the University Library Director.

The D’Angelo Law Library supports the scholarship, teaching and research activities of the University of Chicago Law School community, which consists of approximately 670 J.D. and LL.M. students and 80 full-time faculty members and other scholars. The University of Chicago Law School occupies a unique niche among this country’s premier law schools, offering a rigorous interdisciplinary professional education. The D’Angelo Law Library possesses an excellent research collection with especially strong holdings in foreign, comparative, and international law. The Law Library is committed to providing the highest quality of service to the Law School faculty, students and staff and also to supporting the work of other members of the University community. The Director works as a member of the Law School’s team of Deans and Directors on cross-departmental initiatives and priorities.

The D’Angelo Law Library enjoys a close working relationship with all divisions of the University of Chicago Library. Law School faculty and students are able to draw on the deep resources of the Library system in the humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences for their interdisciplinary research and teaching. The Director is a member of the University Library administrative group, sharing in the leadership of the University Library system. D’Angelo librarians participate in committees on all aspects of the Library and participate in a wide range of professional activities and collaborative initiatives in the wider library community.

Qualifications: JD from an ABA accredited law school is required; MLS from an ALA accredited library school is strongly preferred. Substantial experience in law library administration, with significant experience in increasingly responsible positions required. Academic research law library administration experience is strongly preferred. Comprehensive knowledge of academic research law library collections, services, organization, and the evolving needs of Law School faculty, students and staff is essential. Proven leadership and the ability to develop and effectively lead new initiatives required. Ability to lead the evolving information technology environment as applied to law library collections and services required.
