SLIS Associate Dean Howard Rosenbaum and colleague Kalpana Shankar (IU School of Informatics) are the co-organizers of the 4th Annual Social Informatics Research Symposium. They will also be giving the welcoming address.

The symposium is titled "People, Information and Technology: The Social Analysis of Computing." It will be a half-day workshop on the morning of October 25, 2008 at the Hyatt Regency hotel in Columbus, Ohio held in conjunction with the SIG USE 8th Annual Research Symposium, a half-day workshop in the afternoon. The event is a pre-conference symposium held at the Annual Meeting of the American Society for Information Science and Technology (ASIS&T). Dr. Mark Ackerman, Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science and School of Information University of Michigan will be the keynote speaker.

In addition to Rosenbaum and Shankar, there will be a number of SLIS representatives at the symposium. SLIS faculty member Ying Ding, doctoral students Inna Kouper and Eric Meyer (SLIS, Ph.D. 07) will be speaking, and SLIS doctoral student Kathryn Clodfelter will be presenting a poster. Ten papers and five posters will be presented at the event. MIS student Kerry Hayworth, and Ph.D. student Timothy Bowman will help as volunteers.
