Spring 2012 Edition of SLIS Network Now Available

SLIS Network Vol. 50, No. 1 Cover

The Spring 2012 edition of SLIS Network (Vol. 50, No. 1), the SLIS Alumni magazine, has the theme of “Connection.” The magazine, published twice a year in cooperation with the Indiana University Alumni Association is written to keep alumni up to date on recent news, and to encourage continued interest in SLIS.

In her “Dean’s Note,” Debora Shaw wrote,

“By starting their professional networks early, SLIS students can supplement their courses with perspectives from mentors and colleagues who live the lives for which students are preparing. Alumni help students move from being unconnected to being intelligently connected. An important part of my pitch to those incoming students is the value and strength of the SLIS alumni network.”

SLIS Alumni Board President Jacob Nadal also contributed his thoughts on connection:

“A few weeks ago, I had the pleasure of speaking to a class of MLIS students who are soon to be released onto the job market. The class had been spending some time looking at the skills required of new grads, and I was billed as “a person who actually hires people.” As we spoke, I found myself returning again and again to the importance of connections, the same theme that is found throughout this edition of SLIS Network. One type of connection we talked about was personal: the classmates and professors, friends and colleagues that make up your professional network. The other was an idea of an intellectual community, shaped by shared questions, ideas, and habits of thought that come from studying in a certain place at a particular time.”

SLIS Network also features Class Notes, Faculty News, and other news features. To read this issue, along with other past editions of SLIS Network, please visit the SLIS Network Archives.
