ALA Student Chapter: 2012 National Student Chapter of the Year Runner-Up

The SLIS Student Chapter of the American Library Association continues to receive national recognition for its contributions and activities. This year the chapter was honored as runner-up for ALA Student Chapter of the Year. The ALA-SC officers did a remarkable job in developing programming and fun events to engage students. They were intentional to help with professional development and career planning support.

IU librarians Mary Popp and Courtney Greene - and - SLIS faculty members Staša Milojević and Pnina Fichman have been the ALA-SC sponsors in recent years. All four supported the nomination. Courtney Greene and Staša Milojević are the current sponsors.

The New Member Round Table (NRMT) of the American Library Association announced this year’s awards on their website. An excerpt is included here:

2012 Student Chapter Winner and Runner-up

"The runner-up of this year’s award, the ALA Student Chapter at Indiana University, is recognized for their wealth of events and collaborations with other student groups. We also applaud their chapter’s leadership, mentoring efforts, and excellent use of numerous communication methods.

The members of the SCOTYA Committee, NMRT, and the ALA Membership Committee appreciate the time and effort put in by all of the nominated ALA student chapters this year, and encourage all to keep up the great work!"

SLIS News stories have highlighted related national honors this student organization has received. Their contributions to student life and professional development at SLIS have been significant.
