COURSE DESCRIPTION "This course introduces students to the basic information sources and services among different types of libraries and information centers, including academic, public special and school media." (from SLIS website: www-slis.lib.indiana.edu/ accessed 1/3/01)
COURSE OBJECTIVES Upon completion of L524 students should
Be able to comprehend and discuss reference services and issues holistically within the context of all types of library and information center settings;
Be able to analyze and respond to different types of information needs accurately and efficiently;
Be familiar with theories re: communication styles and understand and apply techniques of question negotiation in diverse reference settings;
Use, describe, evaluate and compare general types of information sources in both print and electronic formats;
Be able to develop and apply appropriate search strategies for information retrieval.
