M.A. in Art History and M.L.S. in Library Science

Add an M.A. in art history to your M.L.S.

The M.A. in art history is offered through the Department of Art History in IU’s College of Arts and Sciences. The curriculum is designed to offer a broad study of art history and the theoretical orientations of the discipline.

As new technology continues to make fine arts available in new and compelling ways, this degree pairing will prepare you to connect people with art through new modalities.

Career possibilities with this dual degree program include working in visual arts user services, public arts divisions, academic library humanities collection planning, art museums, and digital collections.

Get help managing your requirements

Meeting the requirements for a dual degree is quite achievable, especially with the help of your dedicated ILS faculty advisor, who will be assigned to you as soon as you’re admitted into the program.

Your advisor will help you build your course schedule each semester to ensure that your requirements are being met, and that your courses match your evolving academic and professional interests.

Prospective students can indicate their plan to pursue a dual degree in their application. Upon admission to both programs, please fill out the Dual Degree Declaration Form (found in the Current Student Canvas page or by e-mailing gradvise@indiana.edu) in order to get your dual degree approved. After gathering the appropriate signatures, send the form along with your admission letter to the dual program to gradvise@indiana.edu.

Estimate your tuition and fees

IU’s tuiton and fees tool allows you to forecast the cost of credit hours and mandatory fees for your ILS graduate education.

To be considered full time, you must enroll in at least nine credit hours. Anything less is considered part time, which is an option for all students. You can also choose to enroll in more than nine credits if it better suits your goals.

Credit hour fees are different in every school. To get the best estimate of how much your tuition will cost each semester, search tuition rates for both of your dual-degree programs.
