SLIS was well-represented at the Indiana Library Federation (ILF) Conference held November 15-17, 2010 at the Westin Indianapolis Hotel. In addition to presentations by SLIS Indianapolis faculty members Rachel Applegate, Andrea Copeland, Jean Preer and Kathy Schilling, there were talks by several SLIS adjunct faculty members from both Bloomington and Indianapolis. Numerous SLIS alumni that work in academic, public, school and special libraries throughout the state, also presented. Below is a combined list of SLIS adjunct faculty and SLIS alumni that contributed to the conference. We are happy to add to this list. Email us (slisnews@indiana.edu) if we missed your name.
SLIS also hosted an Alumni Reception on Tuesday, November 16 from 4:30-6:30 p.m. in the Council Room, Westin Hotel. Sarah Burton, SLIS Alumni Coordinator, was delighted at the large attendance ("probably the largest ever"). Many of the LLID (Librarians Leading in Diversity) Fellows were introduced at the event by Marcia Smith-Woodard, Indiana State Library. Also, the SLIS Distinguished Alumni Award (DAA) was presented to Thomas G. Kirk, Jr. (MLS'69).
The conference theme was "Libraries Rock". "1,015 people attended the conference." An excerpt from the Conference Preliminary Program Booklet tells about the theme:
• "From blues to rock`n roll to grunge to rap, music has evolved over the decades just as libraries have evolved—from card catalogues to web-based systems to microfilms to computer screens. Change allows for opportunities to learn, adapt and to be creative. Change can also be an impetus for us to collaborate and share knowledge with each other. The 2010 ILF conference will focus on providing new insights into industry trends and options in the current economic conditions. It will also celebrate literacy and librarians throughout Indiana. The conference is a forum for valuable interaction and learning. It will provide ideas for creative programming and encourage dialogue, debate and curiosity."
