Meeting the requirements for a specialization is quite achievable, especially with the help of an advisor. Incoming students will meet initially with their faculty advisor, who will be assigned to you as soon as you’re admitted into the program. After discussing your interest in a specialization, have your faculty advisor sign the Specialization Declaration Form (found in the Current Student Canvas page or by e-mailing gradvise@indiana.edu). Then meet with the specialization advisor to discuss your interest in the specialization and get their approval.

Submit the form to gradvise@indiana.edu, ideally by the end of your second semester. Your official advisor will now be the specialization advisor, who you can meet with for advising for the remainder of your degree program. If there are questions that arise about your progress through the program that your specialization advisor cannot answer, you should meet with the program director or with the Director of Graduate Programs.
